9th “Coffees Roasted at Origin” International Contest AVPA-Paris 2023
On Tuesday, July 18th, 2023, at 3 pm, was held virtually the awards ceremony of the 9th “Coffees Roasted at Origin” International Contest AVPA-Paris 2023 on the AVPA YouTube channel of your association.
The virtuous circle of roasting at the origin confirms the philosophy of AVPA again this year. Thanks to local processing, producers have more access to taste their production. A qualitative improvement follows this in their harvests which, beyond the physicochemical criteria, enter the universe of organoleptic subtleties. It is in this communion with this goal of excellence that we pursue the ambitious project of positioning coffee as a gastronomic product developed by roasters in producing countries. Let them find here the recognition they deserve.
The success of this ninth edition was achieved with our traditional supporters. Our thanks go to CONTI machines, Bentwood grinders, and BRITA water filtration systems. We give a special mention to the International Coffee Organization for which we are particularly grateful.
The coffees presented in the Contest confirmed truly exceptional qualities, each year better, to the delight of our jury chaired by Serge Edmond. The main producer countries were present in the competition among 20 countries in total. The particularity of this 9th edition was the African participation. It exploded with nearly 30% of registrations. In this regard, we could talk about an African year.
AVPA would like to thank all the producers who put their trust in the Association through their financial contribution and their competing coffees. The first of these is this year Colombia and Peru. They are joined this year by Côte d'Ivoire Ethiopia, Gabon, and Uganda. Not to mention newcomers like Haiti, Panama, and Papua New Guinea.
In total, coffees were classified into ten organoleptic categories. Almost 60% were considered Gourmet 34 finally reached the podium with AVPA Gourmet Gold, Silver, or Bronze medals.
To all these producers, we wish you a prosperous coffee year 2023/24 before taking part in the 10th edition of the Contest!
